Children and Youth Stakeholder Action Statements AMCDRR 2016

The Action Statement emphasized that children and youth are not just vulnerable; rather youth and children are part of the solution. Children and youth possess unique capacity to contribute to disaster risk reduction (DRR), respond to disasters and humanitarian crises, and build resilience. They are dynamic, resourceful, innovative and fast learners. Moreover, children and youth have the right for their needs to met and participate in decisions affecting them.

IFRC Stakeholder Action Statement in AMCDRR

The IFRC’s Statement of Action, sets out the collective commitments and actions that Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies across Asia will deliver according to the priority areas of the Sendai Framework.

These include providing greater support to local humanitarian and development actors, addressing issues around social inclusion and diversity in disaster risk reduction, establishing stronger laws and frameworks that reduce vulnerability to disasters and elevating the role of young people as agents of behavioural change in their communities.

Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030

This regional plan is one of the main outcome documents of the AMCDRR in November 2016 in New Delhi, India. The Asia Regional Plan seeks to guide and support the national implementation of the Sendai Framework, but is not a replacement of national plans. It does so by identifying priorities at regional activities to support national and local actions, enhance exchange of good practice, knowledge and information among governments and stakeholders, in addition to strengthening regional cooperation to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework.

Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief

This Code of Conduct seeks to guard our standards of behaviour. It is not about operational details, such as how one should calculate food rations or set up a refugee camp. Rather, it seeks to maintain the high standards of independence, effectiveness and impact to which disaster response NGOs and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement aspires. It is a voluntary code, enforced by the will of organization accepting it to maintain the standards laid down in the Code.

ASEAN Declaration on One ASEAN One Response

The ASEAN Leaders signed the “ASEAN Declaration on One ASEAN One Response: ASEAN Responding to Disasters as One in the Region and Outside the Region” at the 28th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane. The declaration is based on the principle of harnessing the individual and collective strengths of different sectors and stakeholders in ASEAN to effectively respond to disasters inside and outside the region.

13th Southeast Asia Red Cross Red Crescent Leadership Meeting Jakarta Outcomes

The outcome document resulted from the 13th Southeast Asia Red Cross Red Crescent Leadership meeting that was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 27-28 September 2016, with the participation of the leaders of the National Societies of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Viet Nam. The meeting was hosted by PMI of Indonesia ans supported by ICRC and IFRC.

The meeting saw the discussions of issues relevant to strengthening of the sustainability of National Societies, the Movement coordination and cooperation, the cooperation with ASEAN, as well as the One Billion Coalition for Resilience.
